Black Linen Metal
Black Linen is the name we have given to one of our newer textured finishes.
Why Black Linen?
Black, somewhat obviously, was a no-brainer as the finish is created and pictured in our exclusive metal colour, Black Copper. We love black copper at Metalier HQ partly because black is not a colour usually associated with metal. We also love it because it polishes up to a very high sheen. This looks amazing in our sanscrit pattern, particularly on splash backs.
The finish looks to us very reminiscent of the open weave of linen. Most linens don’t have the patchiness of this finish. The patchiness is deliberate, however. Our creative team pushed the boat out and made a finish that looks fabulous and interesting on large areas and panels. If you want a less patchy finish, we can do that too.
The name also makes us smile. You don't associate a fabric like linen with metal. It's a bit of a play on words, an oxymoron if you will.
All the metal colours
As with almost all our metals the linen pattern can be created in any colour and looks particularly great in brass.
Metalier textures
Metalier’s texturing process allows our talented international teams to create an unlimited number of finishes. And every technician adds his or her own personal touch to each work – no two artists will ever produce identical works even when painting the same scene. That is true also of Metalier. Every person with Metalier finishes in their hotel, resort, office, restaurant, yacht or home will have something unique to them. Every finish is unique and every finish is bespoke.

Copper veneer | a design element
Copper veneer | How to be on trend
Copper veneer as a design element is a way of adding a warm glow and elegance to any home, office, restaurant or commercial fit-out. Copper, along with brass and rose gold are much less harsh than the greys and are soft and reflective. It is “on trend” in 2017 as designers move away from grey and into the light comforting tones of the “brown” metals.
Metalier NZ coated aluminium louvres with copper so that the louvres would match the roof, spouting and downpipes. Not only did this solve the external aesthetics of the building, it created a warm copper glow in the interior.
Antiqued Copper from India
In this post we are showcasing a copper pattern created by our talented team in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, India who are all set up ready to train applicators on the Indian sub-continent and also the Middle East. This particular antiqued finish is created using Metalier’s own patinas.
It’s a design the Indian team have created. It looks somewhat like the antiqued copper we produce at Head Quarters but it has its own unique stamp. This is because Metalier is a hand-crafted bespoke finish. Every person who creates a finish will put their own stamp on it. This means that the number of finishes is truly immense. It also means that if a sample is to be created for a job, the the person who is going to do the job should create the sample. What it means for our delighted Metalier customers is that they can be confident that no one will have a metal effect that looks exactly like anyone else’s.
There are now Metalier applicators in the UK, in the USA, Brunei, Belgium, Russia, Iran, Vietnam, the Philippines as well as India. We haven’t kept up with how many applicators there are in many of the countries – however, you can contact them through us

Copper and Iron together | Metalier Liquid Metal
A copper and iron mix – what shall we call it?
Copper and iron experimentation with rust have produced a beautiful new finish from the team at Metalier HQ. Actually it was Will, the Manager, who made the finish but everyone else chipped in with suggestions. To date we haven’t named it but suggestions have been Mars, Mars Sand, Martian and The Outback. We’re inclined to something leaning towards Mars. There has been recent strong evidence of water on the planet, and as we’re keen sky-gazers, we thought we should honour that discovery. You’d need some water to create the rust, perhaps?
Copper and iron together have medical associations
If you google “copper and iron” the first page is almost entirely taken up with medical and metabolism references. There is one reference, however by the Copper Development Association to the fact that copper has been used for many years to modify the properties of steel and cast irons.
Metalier’s interest in Copper and Iron is purely aesthetic, however.
The new finish is elegant, it blends high polish with rustic rust and allows the rust to look very sophisticated. We can’t wait to see it on a reception desk, or lift doors – maybe a fireplace surround or on a super yacht. We still can’t help being amused by the audacious designer who put rust next to white velvet in the saloon of a super yacht. The contrast of styles and aesthetics was just stunning.
It sounds like a cliché to say that the options with Metalier are unlimited but it is actually true. If we provided samples of every finish we’ve ever done the sample boxes wouldn’t be 19cm long (that’s 7 ½ inches for Americans and old people) they would fill a whole bookcase – a bit difficult to lug around for presentations.
If you would like to tell us what you think we should call this new finish or order it, or something else for yourself, please contact us or complete the form below.
