Metal Coating on MDF allows Metalier to perform at its best

Metalier Metal Coating on MDF transforms an inexpensive substrate into a new amazing and sumptuous persona

Metal coating on mdf is the most frequent work we do at Metalier. And it is not surprising that medium-density fibreboard (MDF) is used so often.

One reason is that Metalier transforms a cheap and unlovely-looking base material from an ugly ducking into a swan. It does it beautifully, cost-effectively and without adding any significant weight to the substrate.

In The Sugar Club fit-out, pictured above, MDF was used for the panels in the private dining room and on the doors in the bar area. Actually too, this was a great use of our water-based binder.

MDF is the most frequently-coated substrate at Metalier Liquid Metal HQ

MDF is an engineered wood product made by breaking down hardwood or softwood residuals into wood fibres, often in a defibrillator. The fibres are then combined with wax and a resin binder. Panels are formed by applying a high temperature and pressure. The process is inexpensive but when coated with Metalier Metal Coating the results are spectacular.

There can be occasions when the materials used to manufacture MDF can be incompatible with Metalier. Adhesion can become an issue unless a suitable sealer is used as a barrier between the substrate and the metal coating. This happens rarely but there have sometimes been changes to the composition of MDF. Usually its for good reasons such as stopping the use of formaldehyde! If you have an issue with adhesion go back to the cabinet-maker and find out what changes have been made to the substrate.

Metalier Liquid Metals are also suitable for other wooden or composite wooden substrates.
