It brings people together. It gives warmth, movement and atmosphere. It changes the mood of a space, especially at night.

In this South Island home, Metalier Smoky Bronze panels sit above the fireplace. The panels are not only decorative. They hinge back to reveal the television.

That practical detail is part of what makes the project so good.

The television is there when it is wanted, and gone when it is not. The room is allowed to feel like a room, not like a screen with furniture arranged around it.

The Smoky Bronze finish works beautifully with the stone, timber ceiling, soft furnishings and evening view beyond the glass. It has presence, but it does not shout. It feels warm, grounded and architectural.

It is metal doing a job.

Metal that belongs with other materials

One of the reasons Metalier works so well in residential interiors is that it can sit comfortably with other natural materials.

Stone, timber, leather, wool, linen, glass and metal all have texture and life. They change with light. They have depth. They reward being seen close up.

In this project, the Smoky Bronze panels do not fight the stone fireplace or the timber ceiling. They sit between them. They help connect the vertical strength of the fireplace with the warmth of the room.

That is the sort of detail that makes a residential interior feel resolved.

Custom finishes for custom homes

Residential projects often need more than a standard surface.

They may involve unusual proportions, hidden functions, custom cabinetry, existing structures or very specific design intent. A sheet material may be too limiting. A paint finish may not have enough substance. Solid metal may be too heavy, too costly or too difficult to fabricate.

Designed and applied with care

This South Island project was designed by Bespoke Interior Design , Jane McAuley, and completed by our South Island Metalier applicator Remarkable Surfaces.

In this case, the finish needed to be beautiful, but it also needed to support a practical design idea: concealing the television without making the wall feel blank or heavy.
