At first glance, ice cream and decorative liquid metal resources don’t appear to have much in common.

People enjoy one on a hot summer afternoon.

Designers use the other to create luxury architectural finishes.

Yet a book about selling ice cream played a surprisingly important role in shaping the new Metalier website.

The book is The Ice Cream Funnel by Martin Messier.

The Pink Spoon Principle

Martin’s central idea is beautifully simple.

Imagine walking past an ice cream shop.

The sign outside catches your attention.

Then someone offers you a small sample on a pink spoon.

You taste it.

If you like it, you buy the ice cream.

No pressure.

No complicated sales pitch.

No forms to fill in before you’re allowed a taste.

Just value first.

Trust second.

Business third.

Why Value Comes Before Selling

That philosophy resonated strongly with us.

Over the years, we’ve noticed that many companies in our industry take the opposite approach. Information is hidden behind registration forms. Technical details are treated like state secrets. Visitors are often asked to provide contact information before receiving answers to basic questions.

We understand why businesses do this.

But we’ve never particularly enjoyed being marketed to in that way ourselves.

Decorative Liquid Metal Resources: Metalier’s Pink Spoons?

When we rebuilt the Metalier website, we asked a simple question.

What are our pink spoons?

The answer turned out to be surprisingly obvious.

Over the last twenty years we’ve created an enormous library of knowledge.

Technical guides.

Environmental information.

Application instructions.

Project photography.

Metal and finish collections.

Training materials.

Frequently asked questions.

Much of this information helps architects, designers and applicators make better decisions whether they ultimately work with Metalier or not.

So we decided to share more of it.

These decorative liquid metal resources are our way of offering the first taste before anyone has to make a decision.

Website visitors can download many resources on our website completely anonymously. No forms. No email address required. Just useful information available when people need it.

Some resources remain behind a registration form, particularly those intended for more serious project investigation. But even then, visitors can choose how much communication they receive from us.

Building Trust Through Useful Resources

Trust is difficult to earn and easy to lose.

We believe trust grows when businesses are generous with their knowledge.

That’s why our website contains a growing collection of resources designed to help people understand decorative liquid metal, water-based coatings and architectural metal finishes.

Not because we expect every visitor to become a customer tomorrow.

But because we hope that when they are ready, they’ll remember who helped them.

Helpful First. Business Later

Martin Messier’s Ice Cream Funnel reminded us that sometimes the best sales strategy is not selling at all.

It’s simply being helpful.

And if you’re wondering, we do still keep a few secrets.

After all, every good ice cream shop has a recipe it doesn’t share.
